What is it like to be hypnotised?

Hypnosis is usually experienced as deep relaxation. It is an altered state where during a hypnotic state you can be more in touch with your unconscious mind and suggestions, imagery and other interventions can be used to help you achieve your outcomes more easily. Have you ever daydreamed – where your mind just wandered off, and then you suddenly come back to the room and quite some time has passed? This is very similar to the hypnotic state. During a hypnotherapy session you will not be unconscious or ‘under’ – most people are aware of everything, but in a very realxed state.

Will I do silly things like in stage shows?

Absolutely not! In hypnosis you cannot make anyone do anything that they do not want to do. Stage shows are very different – people attend in the first place expecting to have fun, and then the stage hypnotist will do a series of tests to see who is more suggestible. Even then, if people really did not want to do what was asked of them by the hypnotist, they wouldn’t.

Will I be out of control?

No – completely the reverse. In fact, during a hypnotherapy session you will find yourself in far greater control than normal. During hypnosis it is possible for you to relax yourself, slow your heart rate down, even lower your blood pressure. During hypnosis your unconscious mind becomes far more receptive to positive suggestions that can help you have far more control over how you think and feel.
